Experience Louisiana's rich history from the military perspective, c.1700-present. Exhibits include a Waaar of 1812 cannon, WWII Higgins boat, and a special Medal of Honor exhibit that recognizes all of Louisiana's medal of honor recipients.

The Leland Bowman Lock, located near Intracoastal City, is a system of gates that control the salt and fresh water flow in southern Vermilion Parish. It is a great place to watch boats, birds or enjoy nature. Press the gate button for access to the lock. Video and lock display available for viewing. Free.
A thematically arranged museum dedicated to the history/culture of Kaplan and its people. A self-guided or personal tour is offered. Displays consist of old photographs of Kaplan businesses, celebrations, and the ways of life in the early 1900s. The museum also features quarterly art exhibits showcasing local artisits while Coffee and Music, held the last Saturday of the month during March thru October, highlights local musicians. Free.
This historic building, cir. 1902, is now a museum that houses a permanent collection of rare photographs and artifacts that tell the history of an area known for its rice farming and duck hunting. The museum also has changing art exhibits. Free.
Held in mid-September. Celebrating for over 30 years, this festival features duck and goose calling contests, Queen's pageant, parade, food, music, skeet shooting contest, dog trials and more.
Unique festival to celebrate the French language and culture. Art, Crafts, kids games, Cajun food, and lots more. Sunday afternoon cooking of a 5,000+ egg omelette in a 12' skillet over an open fire served free with French bread, Steens syrup. Recipe includes Louisiana crawfish and TABASCO.
The Freshwater City Lock is the gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. It is a system of gates that controls the salt and fresh water flow in southern Vermilion Parish. The boat landing and crabbing area located next to the Lock is permanently closed.
Annual celebration held June 30-July 4. Festivities include a street fair, carnival rides, food, bar-b-que cook-off, Queen's pageant, parade and fireworks.
